Gözde Demiralp

Gozde Demiralp was born and raised in Ankara, Turkey. She concluded her anesthesiology residency training at Texas Tech University, Lubbock, TX and continued with her Critical Care Medicine Fellowship at Vanderbilt University. She spent 8 years at University of Oklahoma Department of Anesthesiology, where she mainly functioned as a trauma intensivist and the medical director of preoperative anesthesia unit. She has participated in several national talks emphasizing importance of preoperative cardiac evaluation by anesthesiologists, with emphasis on integration of AHA/ ACC guidelines and risk assessment tools with preoperative evaluations. She interrupted her academic career to join a private Ecmo Intensivist group at INTEGRIS Baptist Medical Center, Oklahoma City, OK where she gained experience on both procedural and management side of ECMO, as well as pre and postop critical care for Heart, Lung, and Liver transplant patients. By mid-2020, she joined UW Madison Dept of Anesthesiology as Med Director of CT Surgery ICU, a 27-bed acuity adaptable floor hosting heart & lung transplants, long and short term mechanical circulatory devices, complex aortic cases, and complicated cardiothoracic surgery patients. Some of her achievements in the last 2 years are conversion of the service to a closed ICU model and making CT-ICU as VA ECMO Hub for UW Health, establishing an educational curriculum specific to CT Surg ICU where all levels of trainees and faculty meet, in addition to starting a QI task force within multidisciplinary group of staff specific to CT ICU patient population. She remains actively involved within Society of Critical Care Medicine as well as Society of Critical Care Anesthesiologists where she has served in several leadership positions. She has given multiple national and international Critical Care talks, including ““Caring for ECMO patients in the Operating Room: Key Points that Every Anesthesiologist Should Know about ECMO”, “Controversial Topics of the ECMO-ICUs”, 4Ds of ECMO. She is married with 2 daughters & 2 dogs.
