Javier Perez Fernandez

Dr. Javier Perez-Fernandez, serves as Medical Director of the Critical Care Services at Baptist Hospital of Miami. He is as an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at Florida International University, Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine and Larkin University School of Medicine.

Dr. Perez-Fernandez, originally from Pamplona, Spain, trained in Puerto Rico and Chicago where he was mentored by Dr. Phillip Dellinger. During those years, he was very prolific in academic publications, and he was part of several committees and guidelines of sepsis and ARDS among others.

Dr. Perez-Fernandez manages a large group of critical care physicians, Intensive Care Solutions, overseeing the operations of nine ICUs with over 550 beds. He has been directly involved in the development of Rapid Response Teams, technology implementation and “open ICU” models. He has lectured worldwide in these and other topics and he is frequently invited to share his knowledge in international forums. He is the Secretary-General of the World Federation Intensive and Critical Care (WFICC) and council member of the “Federación Panamericana e Ibérica de Sociedades de Medicina Crítica y Cuidados Intensivos (FEPIMCTI)” as well as the co-chair of the Latin Leaders Committee at the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM).

Dr. Perez-Fernandez has been editor of several books, author of many original publications and peer-review articles.  He has collaborated with different national and international societies, among them the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) being the editor for the 7th Edition of the Fundamental Critical Care Support (FCCS).
