Maj Gen (rtd) Dr. Obashina Ogunbiyi is an Associate Professor of Anaesthesia and Critical Care. He graduated with MB;BS in June 1982, from the premier University of Ibadan, Nigeria and was granted Presidential Commissioning as a 2/Lt in May 1980. He rose to become a Major General and the Corps Commander Medical (CCM) of the Nigerian Army before he voluntarily disengaged from service in December 2015. Dr. Ogunbiyi is a subject of citation in the Millenium Edition of the prestigious Marquis’ Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare in the World (2000/2001). Obashina is a Fellow of the National Post-graduate Medical College of Nigeria (FMCA-1995), Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons (FWACS-2021), Fellow of the International College of Surgeons (FICS-2000). He was awarded Doctor of Medicine (MD) post-graduate degree by the National Post-graduate Medical College of Nigeria in 2020 and he is also a Foundation Fellow and Member of Council of the Nigerian Academy of Medicine (FNAMed-2020). He is an avid author of over 40 scientific articles published in local and international peer-reviewed Medical journals. He has also written some Chapters in textbooks of Medicine, especially those with interest in Critical Care. His area of special interest in Critical care is in COVID-19 and he’s the Pillar Lead of the Critical Care Unit of the Lagos State Emergency Operations Centre of the Lagos State COVID-19 Response. As a renowned Medical Educationist, he is an invited Speaker at various local and international professional fora such as the United Natons General Assembly-G4 Alliance Symposium in 2020 and World Bank/IMF -G4 Alliance Seminar in 2023 , both in Washington, USA. Dr. Ogunbiyi was the first African Black Member of Council of the World Federation of Societies of Intensive and Critical Care Medicine (now WFICC: 2017-2021) in the 35 yrs of existence of the world body. Dr. Ogunbiyi was also a Member of the Governing Board of the National Post-graduate Medical College of Nigeria (2009-2015). He was also the immediate Past President of the Intensive and Critical Care Society of Nigeria (2016-2021). He is a Memer of the Adisory Council of the Global Network of Emergency Medicine (GNEM). He is a Member of the Court of Examiners in the Faculty of Anaesthesia of both the National Post-graduate Medical College of Nigeria and the West African College of Surgeons since 2001 till date. Gen Ogunbiyi is an alumnus of the prestigious National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, Nigeria; University of Washington, USA as well as an alumnus of the renowned Galilee International Management Institute (GIMI), Israel. He has sucessfully supervised 10 Fellowship Dissertations of both Postgraduate Medical Colleges in Nigeria and one of such Fellows is a Professor of Anaesthesia today. He is also presently supervising the Dissertations of four (4) Doctor of Medicine (MD) candidates.
