Sean Chetty

Sean Chetty is an Associate Professor and the Executive Head of the Department of Anaesthesiology & Critical Care at Tygerberg Hospital and Stellenbosch University in Cape Town. He completed his post-graduate specialist training in Anaesthesiology at the University of the Witwatersrand and then went on to complete his Sub-specialist fellowship in Critical Care. He subsequently completed his PhD at the University of the Witwatersrand in 2016.

Professor Chetty was the recipient of the 2019/2020 Discovery Foundation MGH Scholarship, which afforded him the opportunity to complete a fellowship at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard University in Boston. During his time at MGH he has gained valuable experience within his fields of interest and is working with colleagues in South Africa to incorporate appropriate practices into the local healthcare setting.

In addition to being an active clinician scientist, he is a practicing critical care clinician – working and teaching in the ICU. Prof Chetty has a passion for expanding medical education and is regularly involved in knowledge expansion initiatives for health care professionals in South Africa and internationally.

Professor Chetty is a past chairman of the Egoli branch of the Critical Care Society of Southern Africa, and is the President-elect of the SA Society of Anaesthesiologists.
